What is Ceremonial Grade Cacao?

By Vivienne Dempsey

Ceremonial Grade Cacao is a type of Cacao produced and prepared for use in ceremonial and spiritual contexts. It is typically sourced from small organic plantations, where the Cacao is grown using traditional and sustainable methods. It’s processed differently to other types of Cacao or regular chocolate. The Cacao beans are fermented in wooden crates and then sun-dried which helps preserve their natural flavour and nutritional properties.

Ceremonial Cacao is often used both alone or in groups for meditation, journeying, breath-work, yoga or ecstatic dance as a powerful yet gentle way to deepen the practice. Ceremonial Cacao opens the heart chakra and opens us up to receiving self-love. It connects us to our innate creativity,

Ceremonial Cacao also has a range of health benefits, including boosting mood, increasing energy, and promoting mental clarity.

Cacao contains both Flavanols and Polyphenols antioxidants which offer numerous health benefits and are thought to help protect against heart disease, cancer and other chronic conditions. It also contains three mood-boosting compounds Theobromine (meaning food of the Gods) a mild stimulant, Phenylethylamine the happiness molecule and Anandamide which helps keep the body and mind in balance.

Cacao is also a rich source of vitamins and minerals. It is one of the best dietary sources of Magnesium. A 20gm daily dose of Raw Cacao provides about 125 milligrams of magnesium which is a quarter of the daily recommended allowance for adults. Cacao is also a great source of absorbable Iron and immune-boosting Zinc along with Potassium and Phosphorus.
