Here’s a new poem from Siân Williams @satnamtherapy

My Nana

In the hospital’s quiet, where shadows play,
My Nana rests, in a frail array.
Lost in a world of hospital walls,
Yet her spirit stands, it never falls.

In her small frame, a child-like grace,
But her mind, a beacon to light this place.
Filled with memories of old Dublin’s streets,
Where laughter danced to timeless beats.

The first phone’s ring, and the TV’s glow,
Her stories weave, they ebb and flow.
Traveling through foreign lands and culinary delight,
She paints a picture, oh so bright.

Mother to three, grandmother to seven,
Great grandmother to four, this is her heaven.
Her love, a river, ever flowing,
Through generations, it keeps on growing.

In the sunlight of my memories’ gaze,
I see her hands, in tender ways.
Crafting strawberry jam, and fairy cakes so sweet,
Her voice melodic with tales to repeat.

Though illness may grip, her spirit stands tall,
In the hospital’s quiet, she’s the brightest star of all.
For her love, like a flame, forever burns,
In hearts she’s touched, in lessons learned.

So, here’s to you, Nana, in this trying hour,
Your strength, your faith, your love, they hold such power.
In your frailty, you’re a beacon of grace,
Shining bright in this hospital’s embrace

It’s our last day!!! Tune in for the last blasts of Saoro poetry month…

Here’s a powerful new poem from Shelley Novotny @shelleynovotnyshaktiart

https://saoro.org/2024/02/29/determined-heart/

Determined Heart

In a world of shadows, her soul takes flight,
Embarking on a journey, seeking inner light,
A quest for truth, a path unknown,
A heart in search of seeds once sown.

Through valleys of doubt and mountains of fear,
She walks, her purpose clear,
With each step forward, she begins to see,
The strength within, the possibilities.

Resilience rises like a phoenix from ash,
A force unyielding, her spirit won’t crash,
Through trials and tribulations, she learns to stand,
Seeing a beacon of hope in a desolate land.

Perseverance guides her through storms that rage,
A steadfast resolve, a fire to engage,
She pushes through barriers, breaks down walls,
For deep within, she hears destiny’s call.

Determination fuels her unwavering drive,
A flame that burns, helps her survive,
She conquers every challenge, no obstacle too great,
A force to be reckoned with, a warrior’s fate.

In the tapestry of life, her story unfolds,
A tale of transformation, of secrets untold,
With each lesson learned, she becomes like new,
A masterpiece of strength, painted in hues.

So let her journey inspire us all,
To rise from the depths, to answer the call,
To embrace resilience, perseverance, and might,
And embark on our own path toward inner light.

**Meet the poet on Saoro**

Meet the poets we love during February to learn about how they started, what inspires them & any advice they have for writers starting out…

Check out this piece from the wonderful Adele Leahy @adele_leahy about her writing

https://saoro.org/2024/02/29/meet-the-poet-adele-leahy/

“Recently I facilitated an Art and Poetry workshop in Dublin City University Health and Wellness Centre over six weeks. Those who attended were going through the healing process. It was a great success as we all bonded, were vulnerable and felt the power of connection, art and poetry..….

On Writing by Stephen King is the new writer’s best Almanac. Every writer recommends it. The Writers and Artists Yearbook is also very useful. Why I Write by George Orwell and any poetry book by the phenomenal Rupi Kaur, such as Homebody.

My best advice is to get your thoughts down on paper. Then try to summarize them and remove needless words. Poetry is all about brevity. Think of the word that describes what you are writing, check the thesaurus for other words. If possible, think of a word that is never used to describe your word. E.g. Yeats writes- A terrible beauty was born.”

Here’s a new poem from Deirdre Gleeson

The Third Queen

My bleeds are stuttering now,
Clapping out their own rhythm
More gaps than notes…
Still mysterious to that part of me
That loves to hold the bow
And count the arrows

But my dandelion body knows the time
Each falling flying seed drifts me
Towards a different womb emptiness
Than before

In this space between two stories
It’s time to lie fallow again
To hold my body in the dark
Just as I hold my breath

Shapeless futures pool in front
Squall and sediment behind
I am baby held in cradle
I am mother waiting
Growing someone in a different way

Let me be now
My own wide and slow river
That knows it’s flow
Without the pushing

I could burn in the flame
Of the third queen
Be diminished to smeared ash
On a petrified creature

Or rise
Transformed from beak to tail
And cleared of all disguises
Glowing from the fire within

Here’s a new poem from Patrick-Joseph Douglas @breathetrustflow & @menrisingtogether

https://saoro.org/2024/02/29/lady-righteous/

Lady Righteous

Her mass rolls in each sound uniquely followed by the next.

Venturing out seems daunting but what lies within you is even more haunting.

The bright rock in the sky complements her reflection that’s ruthlessly unforgiving and just like that she will cease you from living.

While being at the mercy of her power she encourages you to breathe and not to cower. By embracing her grace it’s easier to surrender, to let go, ground and find your own. Now we can love in the present, live in the moment and create in the unknown.
