Wrote the poem MAAT one morning
after a amazing dream. Meeting the Egyptian Goddess of
truth and justice was no small thing. She merged with me in
that dream, and that dream has always stayed with me. She
was this being of light. I say she, but really there was no
obvious gender. I was told that I had met this being, this light
many times before but I had not remembered. But that I
would remember this time.
And what has this got to do with activism in desperate times you are probably wondering!
Well, in ways, me too. My mind has always been labyrinthe, non linear.
I don’t work in lines and I tend to see connections where others might not.

So regarding activism I’m going to begin with MAAT.
We are witnessing these days many horrors that perhaps the
mind, heart and emotions have great difficulty in processing.
Feeling into even. The previously unimaginable and
unfeelable is upon us. Inner screams are palpable in the
atmosphere as we go about our daily routes and routines
despite the horror.
How, on earth, do we do this?
And once again, where does activism come in?

Activism, l feel, comes in many different guises. I do feel that
it is important, vital even, that everyone does their bit, no
matter how small.
You may be out on the streets protesting inhumanities daily.
You may be silently, yet quite loudly on other wavelengths,
outing complicit organization’s that are creating the horrors
of the genocide that’s unfolding before our eyes. The raping
of our precious earth resources in so many countries and
ways.
And once again where does MAAT come in?
Well MAAT is an Archetype, and energy that can inhabit us or
an energy that we can call upon to assist in our activism.
Activism is the practice of taking action to promote or create
social or political change. The energy and support of an
Archetype such as MAAT, the Goddess of truth and justice,
can carry us through difficult times. In activism, burn out is
common. Many times we can feel isolated, alone, marginalised in our efforts.
Even with the support of like minded others, it can and does feel like a
lonely path. After all, we all wander home at night wondering
if anything we are doing in the face of the suffering of the
world making any quantifiable difference?

Calling on the energies of MAAT can make one feel less
alone in the pursuit of justice. After all it’s MAAT who has
been the at the forefront of truth and justice before me or
you, however misrepresented this energy may indeed be or
has been. Nevertheless, we can call on and resource
ourselves through connecting within ourselves to this pure
original meaning of the archetype of MAAT.
So this energy has informed my journey of supporting and
encouraging change from within myself, but also, as a result
outside myself in family, in community etc. Often in times of
desperation, what to do, how to do it, whats the best way? I
now refer to MAAT for help, energetic help, spiritual help.
And in this way MAAT has been a guide, a wayshower.
I did not know or realise this when that dream came up me. But
MAAT has creeped up on me over time. The essence of this
Archetypal energy supported me, often without me knowing.
Call on what and whoever helps, but do call on something,
light candles to the invisible assistance that is within reach.
Do what you can, and then, do more.

What calls us to activism? What is it deep in the self that
creates a longing for a better world?
Is it something personal or something collective? I like to
think it’s a collective stirring, a longing to love a life that
matters. A soul sense you might say. We are seeding distrust
in societies today. We are othering those that are “different”
that come into our countries. Create bias and as a result
project our own inner demons and fears.
We are not living in a time of complacency. If you feel
paralysed, not knowing how to help, begin by helping
yourself to look deeply into whats stopping you speaking up,
whats stopping you doing whatever is possible to do,
however small. What’s stopping you creating community with
all beings, whats causing you to fear others?
Our own shadows and projections cause untold damage.
Self care while being socially active is a radical act. The old
patriarchal systems are showing the cracks. Exhaustion is
one of the tools of that old system. Pushing oneself into
exhaustion from doing too much with not enough time to
breathe, to be in nature. Do simple things to recharge, but
please do recharge.
Call on MAAT, you might be surprised.
Feel whatever it is you need to feel and then carry on. A body
that never shakes or cries rages, trembles or erupts. That is
emotional colonisation. And it can harm the people who are
already carrying the heaviest load of grief, trauma, illness
and intensity. The stoic unfeeling parts that might seem
comfortable for others betrays the bodies requirements to
feel what is necessary to feel in order to carry on.
And back to MAAT call on this energy and others that may be
close to your soul, your heart. But please, do call, do ask, do
pray.
We are not here to do any of this alone.
