Monsters

If you look for monsters
You will surely find them—
Simple stringy ones
To start
Cute with saucer eyes
And dripping needle teeth

If you look for monsters
You will surely see them—
For every crevice hides
Some carcass left behind
Or colony to spawn
Another greedy fiend

If you look for monsters
You will surely seed them—
In every dark corner
Lace them, weave them
Spin them out from your own
Leathery mouth
Until you see—
Yourself
Feel your scaly abdomen
And learn,
To love that too
