Join us in September 2024 for a series on Unravelling Shame
Unravelling Shame
Join Siân Williams, Michael Ryan and Saoró in September for a series of explorations on the topic of unravelling shame.
In this period between Lughnasadh and Samhain as we move from the light towards the darker half of the year, we invite you to join us to shine the light together into the darkness of the shame that we each carry.
For though the past may hold its claim, /
The soul can rise beyond the flame. /
In time, the chains may start to fall, /
And love and strength can conquer all.
his book has to remain unwritten, unread, unnoticed, /
Because his name could not be on the cover. /
Author Unknown ~ /
The name of the book? /
Is it not clear? /
Can’t you see? /
It’s all about love & all things queer /
And not being seen for fear /
Of Shame.
Navigating shame can be a challenge as we unravel the many layers of it buried within us, but it can be done. Like all of our emotions, it carries a signal and message and points us towards the places within that may be lacking our compassion, acceptance and empathy. It calls us into deeper wholeness, inviting us to meet the parts of ourselves that need us most.
Additional resources as you navigate the topics in the Unravelling Shame series - one-to-one & group support, book, podcast & other online recommendations
For we have the power /
To feel it all /
For those who just couldn’t /
Buried deep in the soil /
The hunger, the hurt /
An gorta mór /
The famine is over /
Let’s feast for them all
It had been years! Years spent dreaming of meeting a white knight who would somehow magically appear and gallantly swoop in and save me. The revelation that unveiled on my healing journey was that the “saving” was never going to come from someone else.
now every cell feels the shame /
The programmes passed down from generation to generation /
Can I break the cycle? /
Can I be the one to say no more? /
Can I be the one to break free of addictions allure?
In this period between Lughnasadh and Samhain as we move from the light towards the darker half of the year, we invite you to join us to shine the light together into the darkness of the shame that we each carry.
Unravelling shame bring it into the light from the darkness and begin to love your amazing wonderful self.
Thank you so much @successcoachheather & @satnamtherapy. #unravellingshame...

Read the powerful new piece “Shaking off Shame: 5 Ways to Shed Shame” by Yvonne Doherty @daretolivecoaching as part of our Unravelling Shame series
Yvonne talks about her personal experience of shame and also shares how 5 ways can help us unravel the shame that we carry
“Shame stifled my expression, perpetuated the anxiety I was feeling and made sure that I would not gain any confidence in myself. But as someone who highly values expression, as well as authenticity, growth, and freedom, I eventually realised I couldn’t allow shame’s hold to continue keeping me stuck. On my healing journey, I started questioning the shame, learning about its roots and committed to do what I could to melt it away…
Here’s what helped me most: 1. Name it to Tame it 2. Embrace Vulnerability 3. Practice Self-compassion 4. Practice Self-Forgiveness 5. Practice Empathy

Read a new poem “Tender Around the Eyes” by Kieran Coogan @kieran.coogan as part of our Unravelling Shame series…
I was born with tender eyes That strained to see the blackboard and a voice box that never ran smooth ‘Take your time’ teacher said But I was always out of breath When it was my turn to recite
I grew tall too quickly Almost as quick as my inferiority. No amount of sloping and flat shoes Could hide my head above the parapet Until one day I called the naked Emperor out I caught the flash of the kingfisher Fish in mouth My eyes -clear and focused On the next breath I began my recitation I looked down At my slack jawed tormentors My own words pouring forth and Standing in front of them I could see for miles and miles.

Join Gary from @anam_beo for a free zoom connection circle on Unravelling Shame - Thursday 12th September, 7pm GMT.
Drop into a container with likeminded souls, to connect to yourself and your own relationship with shame. It is only when we look at our darkness, both individually and collectively that real expansion can occur. We will ground together with a short meditation, followed by some guided journalling to tap into how we feel about shame. We will have an opportunity to share how we are feeling and finish with an open space for discussion.
Zoom details here, or DM @anam_beo // @saoroexperience for link

Read an excerpt from a new poem by Mayla Lambert @maylalambert as part of our Unravelling Shame series… Read the full poem on our website: https://saoro.org/2024/09/01/my-body/
**My Body**
Left alone I locked the door and threw away the key. No contact with my heart. No contact with my body. Only the dull monotonous tone of numbing… Which substance? Any substance that alleviates actually having to feel because I don’t know what’s real. Under the mask and the nice girl image was a master saboteur, a wild one, a savage. I know the low after the high will be tough. I’ve woken up too many times feeling rough but in this moment I don’t care. I want to feel that euphoric bliss. I don’t care that I’m poisoning you with toxins that seep deep into my tissue.
The relationship that will see me until my final days. The ultimate relationship in so many ways. With me since birth. The witness to my low self worth That led me to abuse, trauma, neglect, pain And now every cell feels the shame. The programmes passed down from generation to generation. Can I break the cycle? Can I be the one to say no more? Can I be the one to break free of addictions allure? Open up the healing process as I acknowledge you as the only home I’ll ever own and even at that our fate is known. That one day I’m destined to leave you behind. Did I treat you to the best of my ability? Was I kind?…
…Oh my sweet body, I’m sorry. Thank you for all you do. Slowly I’m learning and remembering how to love you
